Mountie Baseball Edges Hood

Box Score
Frederick, MD - Behind a solid pitching performance from Jacob Bryja, the Mount Aloysius baseball team defeated Hood College by a final score of 4-2 on Thursday afternoon in non-conference action at Frederick Community College.

Bryja limited the Blazers to two runs and six hits in 6 and 2/3 innings on the mound for the Mounties. He departed in the bottom of the seventh with runners on first and second, and Brady Wright needed just one pitch to record the third out and keep it at a 2-2 ballgame.

With the game tied at 2-2, the Mounties added the decisive run. Benjamin Legath and Bryn Brown hit back-to-back singles and advanced to second and third with no outs. Legath then came home on a wild pitch, and one batter later Brown would do the same to give the Mounties a 4-2 advantage.

Wright then closed out the game as he allowed just two singles in Hood's final two at-bats to record his second victory of the season.

Mount Aloysius struck early in the game as Connor Bowie ripped a single to lead off the first inning. Patrick Gully knocked a double down the right field line that brought in Bowie, and then Legath singled but Gully was thrown out at the plate. Legath came around on the next batter off of a fielder's choice to make it 2-0 heading into the bottom of the first.

The Blazers got one run back in the bottom of the fourth and tied the game in the bottom of the sixth before the Mounties rallied late to record the victory.

Brown finished with three hits to lead the Mounties offensively, while Bowie, Gully and Legath added two hits apiece.

Mount Aloysius improves to 12-9 overall and will travel to New York this weekend to square off in two AMCC doubleheaders. The Mounties will face Hilbert on Saturday on the campus of Houghton College beginning at 4 p.m. and will return to the field on Sunday against Medaille with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m.
