Early Goals Lead Men's Soccer Past Wilson

Sloan scored his second goal of the year in the win
Box Score
Cresson, PA - The Mount Aloysius men's soccer team jumped out to an early lead and then fought off a hard-working Wilson College by a final score of 2-1 on Wednesday afternoon in non-conference action.

Patrick Chea scored his first goal of the season just 3:34 into the game after Alex Duthie flicked in a header from the edge of the box. Chea got around the last defender and blasted a shot past the Wilson keeper to give the Mounties a 1-0 advantage. The home side controlled possession for a majority of the first half and were rewarded once again when Thomas Sloan directed a shot in off of a pass from Molia Sesay at the 31:02 mark to give the Mounties a 2-0 lead.

The visiting Phoenix answered on the counterattack as the half was winding down. Aaron Russ beat two defenders off the dribble and slotted home his shot from the top of the box to cut the deficit to 2-1 heading into halftime.

The Mounties threatened early in the second half due to the play of Chea and winger Jim Smith, but were unable to find another goal throughout the final 45 minutes. The Mountie backline led by keeper Kyle Lachance hung touch to maintain the lead on the way to the victory.

Lachance made two saves in his first start in goal for the Mounties. Chea registered five shots while Sloan had four shots for the game.

Mount Aloysius improves to 3-4-1 overall heading into their conference opener at home on Saturday at 1 p.m. against D'Youville College.
