Mounties Drop Two on the Road

Bradford, PA - The Mount Aloysius men's basketball team suffered two close AMCC defeats over the weekend as the Mounties fell 79-73 on Saturday afternoon to D'Youville before a 86-79 setback against Pitt-Bradford on Sunday afternoon. 

In the loss to D'Youville, the Mounties came out firing and led 20-8 after Dillon Bender drained a three-point shot while being fouled with 13:26 remaining in the first half. The Spartans chipped away and brought the deficit down to four points at 30-26 with 5:02 on the clock. With the Mounties ahead 36-31, the Spartans went on a 12-2 over the final three and a half minutes to take a 43-38 lead into halftime.

The Mounties regained the lead early in the second half and held a slight advantage until two D'Youville free throws with 10:28 left to play gave the Spartans a 61-59 lead. The two sides went down the stretch trading baskets, and Mount Aloysius trailed by two points after Shaire Tolson-Ford hit a layup with 2:25 left in the game. D'Youville responded with a three-point shot before Troy Williams converted a basket to make it a 76-73 ballgame with 1:45 remaining. The Mounties were unable to score again as the Spartans hit 3-of-4 free throw attempts in the closing moments to seal the win.

Dillon Bender paced the Mountie attack with 19 points, and Arin Wade contributed 13 points. Tolson-Ford recorded 11 points and four assists off the bench, and Tre Brown dished five assists.

On Sunday, Mount Aloysius again came out strong against Pitt-Bradford while taking a 41-31 lead into halftime. Chad Eisenhuth spearheaded the first-half effort with 13 points in the opening 20 minutes. Pitt-Bradford stormed back to start the second half with a 14-3 run to take a 45-44 lead.

The Mounties retook the lead and led by five points at 72-67 with 7:31 left on the clock, but the Panthers embarked on a 14-2 run down the stretch to take control and record the victory.

Arin Wade scored 28 points and grabbed 12 rebounds in the Sunday defeat, while Eisenhuth ended with 18 points. Tolson-Ford had his second straight strong game off the bench with 11 points and four assists.

The Mounties fall to 5-9 overall and 2-5 in conference play. They will return to their home court on Saturday with a matchup against Penn State Behrend at 1 p.m.
