Women's Basketball Falls in AMCC Play

Bradford, PA - The Mount Aloysius women's basketball team had a tough weekend in AMCC action as the Mounties lost 55-49 on Saturday afternoon against D'Youville and then dropped a 81-67 decision to Pitt-Bradford on Sunday afternoon.

Mount Aloysius was plagued by turnovers in the defeat at D'Youville as the Mounties tied their season high in the category with 26. After falling into a 16-8 hole after one quarter, the Mounties responded with a 21-8 second quarter to take a 29-24 advantage into halftime. 

The Mounties struggled to start the second half and didn't score until Hannah Drenning hit a three-point shot with 3:50 remaining in the third quarter to provide a 32-30 lead for the visitors. D'Youville would ended the quarter on a 11-3 run to take a 41-35 lead into the final period. The Mounties never took the lead back in final session as D'Youville held on for the victory. 

Abbie Zinobile led the Mounties with 21 points, nine blocked shots and seven rebounds. Drenning scored 18 points off the bench, and Abby Kulick mixed 13 rebounds, six assists and four steals in the loss.

Mount Aloysius responded on Sunday with a strong first quarter against Pitt-Bradford in which the Mounties took a 18-12 lead after the opening 10 minutes led by nine points from Kulick. After Mount Aloysius took a 27-19 lead on a Kulick shot from behind the arc with just over seven minutes to go in the second, the Panthers responded with five consecutive points. The Mounties held on to a slight advantage until Pitt-Bradford scored the final five points of the quarter to take a 33-32 lead at the break.

The two two sides went into a stalemate in the third quarter before a quick 6-0 run by the Panters in the beginning of the fourth gave the home side a 55-49 edge with 8:45 to play. The Panthers went on to expand their advantage to 62-51 over the next minute and a half, and the Mounties couldn't recover in the final minutes.

Kulick scored 25 points and registered nine rebounds in defeat. Breana Kendrick scored 11 points off the bench, and Alexia Servello registered 10 points, six rebounds and four assists.

The Mounties are now 7-7 overall and 4-3 in conference play. They will return to action on Saturday when they will play host to Penn State Behrend at 3 p.m.
