Dillon Bender scored his 1000
th career point with 41 seconds remaining in the ballgame, but the Mount Aloysius men's basketball team fell by a final score of 81-62 on Saturday afternoon to Penn State Behrend at home in AMCC action.
Bender, who needed 14 points entering Saturday's contest to hit the milestone, registered his 1000
th point on a three-point shot as the game came to a close. The senior guard finished with 15 points while hitting four shots from behind the arc.
Shaire Tolson-Ford added 14 points,
Jourdan Lamberth had nine points off the bench and
Joe Dziabo recorded six points and two steals in defeat.
Behrend jumped out to a 11-2 lead before the Mounties scored six straight points capped by a three-point shot from
Arin Wade to cut the deficit to 11-8. The Lions held a slim 18-16 advantage after three free throws from
Jourdan Lamberth with 11:28 remaining, and Behrend led 25-21 before ending the half on on a 18-6 run to take a 43-27 lead into the break. The Mounties cut the Behrend lead to 11 points on a
Tre Brown layup with 7:22 left in the ballgame, but would get no closer as Behrend took the victory.
The visiting Lions shot 29-for-55 (52.7 percent) from the field while the Mounties shot 20-for-48 (41.7 percent). Behrend outrebounded the home side 34-23.
Mount Aloysius falls to 5-10 overall and 2-6 in conference play and return to the court Monday evening at 6 p.m. in a road matchup at Pitt-Greensburg.
