Box Score Greensburg, PA - The Mount Aloysius men's basketball team nearly pulled off a dramatic comeback before ultimately dropping an AMCC contest to host Pitt-Greensburg by a final score of 84-80 on Monday evening.
Freshman
Darryl Sanders broke out for his best game of the season off the bench with 23 points, seven rebounds, three assists and two steals.
Chad Eisenhuth helped pace the Mounties offensively with 19 points, including a 5-for-10 showing from behind the arc, while adding five assists and three rebounds.
Joe Dziabo shot 8-for-9 from the floor to finish with 17 points. The senior forward added seven rebounds and five blocked shots. Point guard
Tre Brown contributed seven assists and five steals.
The two teams were tied 10-10 early on before the Bobcats went on a 13-1 run to take a 23-11 advantage with 11:48 to play in the first half. Pitt-Greensburg held a lead around double digits for the remainder of the period and took a 45-35 lead into halftime.
The Bobcats gradually expanded their advantage in the second half and led by as much as 22 at 65-43 with 14:34 to go before the Mounties rallied. Mount Aloysius went on a 16-3 run over the next six minutes to cut the deficit to 68-59 on a layup from
Dillon Bender with just over eight minutes to play. The visiting Mounties would eventually decrease the gap to six points at 80-74 on a three-point shot courtesy of Eisenhuth with 1:55 left in the game. The Mounties then forced two turnovers on the defensive end, with Bender converting a bucket and
Tre Brown hitting two free throws to make it 80-78 in favor of UPG with 33 seconds left. Mount Aloysius was forced to foul and the Bobcats hit their final four free throws to end the furious Mountie comeback attempt.
While Greensburg held advantages in the shooting department, the Mounties forced 20 UPG turnovers on the evening to stay in the game.
Mount Aloysius falls to 5-11 overall and 2-7 in conference play. The Mounties will host Franciscan on Thursday evening at home at 6 p.m. in another conference matchup.
