Second Half Dooms Mounties Against Hawks

Cresson, PA - The Mount Aloysius men's basketball team played well in the first half, but struggled through the second half as the visiting Hilbert College Hawks defeated the Mounties by a final score of 101-76 on Sunday afternoon in AMCC action.

The Mounties came out strong and held a 13-10 lead after two free throws from Shaire Tolson-Ford with 14:54 remaining in the opening half. Hilbert would take a slight lead until Mount Aloysius tied the game at 25-25 on a jumper from Dillon Bender with eight and a half minutes to go. The two teams were tied again at 34-34 before Hilbert used a 10-5 run to close the half to lead 44-39 at the break.

Leading 46-43 just over two minutes into the second half, the Hawks went on a 13-1 run to take a 59-44 advantage with 15:17 remaining in the ballgame. Hilbert continued to control the pace of play and increased their lead to 27 points with nine minutes left on the clock. The visitors led by as much as 37 points before a late Mountie run resulted in the final scoreline.

Dillon Bender scored 16 points and grabbed five rebounds for the Mounties, while Chad Eisenhuth notched 15 points, three boards and three assists. Darryl Sanders also finished in double figures with 12 points and Brian Reams scored eight points off the bench.

The Hawks shot a blistering 12-for-21 (57.1 percent) from the three-point line and were led by 28 points from Jalen Smith, who hit seven shots from behind the arc. Jerame Owens scored 13 points and registered 14 rebounds, and Sean Weisansal nearly had a triple-double performance with 12 points, 11 rebounds, nine assists and four steals.

Mount Aloysius falls to 6-12 overall and 3-8 in conference play and return to their home court on Wednesday evening with a 6 p.m. tipoff against La Roche.
