Box Score Buffalo, NY - The Mount Aloysius women's basketball team outscored host Medaille 42-24 in the middle two quarters on their way to a 79-65 victory over the Mavericks in AMCC action on Saturday afternoon.
After the two teams finished the first quarter tied 21-21, the Mounties led by two points with 5:37 remaining in the second quarter before embarking on a 11-2 run to close the session. The run was capped by two
Hannah Drenning free throws with 27 seconds left as Mount Aloysius took a 43-32 lead into halftime.Â
Medaille came back to cut the lead to 47-42 with 5:41 to go in the third quarter, but the Mounties surged once again with a 13-0 run over the next four and a half minutes to take a 60-42 advantage after
Katie Bracken hit a jump shot with 1:22 left in the period. Mount Aloysius held a comfortable advantage throughout the final period on their way to the win.
Abby Kulick led the Mounties with 16 points on the strength of a 8-for-10 showing at the free throw line while adding six rebounds.
Breana Kendrick scored 15 points and
Alexia Servello (12 points) and Drenning (11 points) also finished in double figures.
Kaleigh Roop registered seven points and a game-high nine rebounds off the bench.
The victory also marks the first time the Mounties have ever defeated the Mavericks on Medaille's home court.
Mount Aloysius improves to 7-6 in conference play and 10-10 overall. The Mounties currently sit at fourth in the conference standings and will return to action on Wednesday at Penn State Altoona for a 8 p.m. tipoff.
