Box Score Cresson, PA - The Mount Aloysius women's basketball team used a strong defensive effort to defeat rival Penn State Altoona by a final score of 59-43 on Wednesday evening in AMCC action on the Mounties home floor.
Mount Aloysius limited Altoona to 28.1 percent shooting from the field while forcing 18 Altoona turnovers. The Mounties jumped out to a 22-11 lead after one quarter and expanded their advantage to 36-18 by halftime. Altoona made just five field goal attempts in the opening 20 minutes of play as Mount Aloysius locked down on the defensive end of the floor.Â
The Mounties expanded their lead to as much as 20 points in the second half, and the visiting Lions couldn't cut the deficit below double digits for the remainder of the contest.Â
Abby Kulick led the Mounties with 18 points on 6-for-8 shooting from the field and 4-for-5 shooting from behind the arc, and also added five rebounds, five steals and three assists.
Alexia Servello added 15 points and five assists, and
Abbie Zinobile nearly finished with a double-double with nine points and ten rebounds.Â
The Mounties improve to 7-5 overall and 4-1 in conference play. With the win, Mount Aloysius now sits alone at second place in the AMCC standings. The Mounties will return to action this weekend with road games at D'Youville on Saturday and at Pitt-Bradford on Sunday. Both games will tipoff at 3 p.m.Â
