Steubenville, OH - The Mount Aloysius men's soccer team registered 16 second-half shots and had a number of scoring opportunities close to goal, but were unable to find the back of the net in a 3-0 loss to host Franciscan University on Tuesday afternoon in AMCC action.
Franciscan took the most of their scoring chances in the first half as the Barons converted on three of their four shots on goal to take a commanding 3-0 advantage into the halftime break. Mount Aloysius responded with a strong second half in which the Mounties outshot the hosts by a 16-7 margin and held the majority of possession. However, the Mounties couldn't finish the final ball despite a multitude of chances inside the box.
Graham Hunter led the Mounties with five shots, while
Alex Duthie came off the bench to record four shots for the game. Midfielder
Thomas Sloan had three shots, including two shots on goal.
In net, goalkeeper
James Eyre played the second half and stopped four shots. Mount Aloysius finished the game with a 24-17 advantage in shots and an 11-3 advantage in corner kick opportunities.
The Mounties will return to the field on Saturday as they will host Hilbert College at 3 p.m.
