Loretto, PA - Led by its senior class, the Mount Aloysius men's soccer team defeated visiting Pitt-Bradford by a final score of 5-0 on Saturday afternoon in a game played on the campus of St. Francis University due to unplayable field conditions caused by heavy rains on the Mounties home field.
The Mounties continued their strong offensive play as they outshot the Panthers 33-2 and put 22 shots on frame. Mount Aloysius got on the board in the 18th minute when senior
Aubrey Brown scored off of a corner kick taken by
Joshua Devlin. Despite a number of chances near goal, the Mounties settled for the 1-0 advantage heading into halftime.
In the second half, senior
Jim Smith made it 2-0 in favor of the hosts when he took a through ball from Devlin and struck a left-footed volley into the bottom corner of the net in the 56th minute of play. The Mounties struck again in the 73rd minute.
Daniel Roberts had his shot stopped by the Bradford keeper, and
Quoiquoi Gayflor headed the rebound off the crossbar before following it up again to score. Eight minutes later, senior
Michael Clendenin ripped home a goal off of a feed from
Thomas Sloan. Mount Aloysius capped the scoring two minutes after that when
Domity Dahn scored his first career goal off of a rebound.
The Mounties honored their senior class prior to Saturday's game. Brown, Smith, Clendenin,
Ricky Abbs,
John Ouellette,
Kevin Ouellette,
Todd Azeles,
Lucas Gunby and
Molia Sesay have been at the forefront of one of the best turnarounds in collegiate soccer. The men's soccer program won just 10 games total in the four years prior to their arrival, and never reached the conference playoffs. With Saturday's win, the senior class captured their 40th career victory while clinching their fourth-straight conference playoff berth.
Mount Aloysius will host La Roche in their regular season finale on Tuesday at 3 p.m.
