Buffalo, NY - The Mount Aloysius men's soccer team received goals from four different scorers in a 4-1 victory over host D'Youville College on Saturday afternoon in AMCC action.
After the Spartans scored an early goal, the Mounties put pressure on throughout the first half. Mount Aloysius outshot D'Youville 15-3 over the opening 45 minutes, but didn't find the scoreboard until the 42:52 mark when
Alex Duthie sent a goal past the charging Spartan keeper off of a cross from
Thomas Sloan. The two sides went into halftime at 1-1.
Mount Aloysius continued its control of possession and scoring chances in the early stages of the second half. Just under nine minutes into the second period,
Joshua Devlin gave the Mounties the lead as he knocked in a goal off of a feed from
Jim Smith.Â
The Mounties continued their search for goals, with Sloan hitting the crossbar on a shot from the top of the box and
Kyle Marshall knocking a curling shot off the post. In the 84th minute, Mount Aloysius increased its lead to 3-1 when
Graham Hunter slotted in a goal after a through ball from Marshall. The Mounties capped their scoring with 17 seconds left to play as Sloan received a pass from Hunter and sent in a left-footed shot to the bottom corner of the net to make it a 4-1 game.
Mount Aloysius held a 29-8 advantage in shots and 12-3 advantage in corner kick opportunties. Sloan, Devlin and
Jalen Terry paced the team with four shots apiece.
The Mounties improve to 7-5-1 overall and 1-3 in conference action. They will return to the field Tuesday for an away match at Franciscan at 4 p.m.Â
