Men's Basketball Falls in Season Opener

Frostburg, MD - The Mount Aloysius men's basketball team dropped its season opener by a final score of 110-88 on Tuesday evening to host Frostburg State University in non-conference action. The game was the season opener for both teams.

The Mounties were led by a trio of double-figure scorers. Troy Williams recorded 14 points and nine rebounds, and Jourdan Lamberth also registered 14 points on the strength of a 7-for-8 showing at the free throw line. Tre Brown finished with 12 points and a team-high six assists. Chad Eisenhuth mixed nine points, seven rebounds and three steals, and Darryl Sanders ended the contest with eight points and eight boards.

The Mounties took a 12-10 lead just over five minutes into the contest on a Lamberth layup, and held a 21-18 edge after Brown drove through the paint for two. After Frostburg went on a 8-0 run for a 26-21 lead, Mount Aloysius cut the deficit to 29-27 on another bucket from Brown with 6:40 remaining in the opening half. The Bobcats led 33-30 with just over five minutes to go before the home side went on a 17-8 run to close the half and take a 50-39 advantage into the break. Mount Aloysius wouldn't get any closer than the 13-point halftime deficit in the second period of play. 

Mount Aloysius won the rebounding battle 49-43, but commited 27 turnovers while the Bobcats only committed 16.

The Mounties return to the court on Friday evening with an 8 p.m. tipoff against Bethany College in game two of the opening round of the Coaches v. Cancer Classic at Mount Aloysius. Game one will feature Juniata against Penn State Altoona at 6 p.m.
