Mounties Clipped by Lions in Final Minute

Erie, PA - The Mount Aloysius women's basketball team held a one-point lead with just over a minute to play, but host Penn State Behrend scored eight of the final 10 points to take a 65-60 victory over the Mounties on Saturday afternoon in AMCC action.

Breana Kendrick drained a three-point shot to give the Mounties a 58-57 advantage with 1:25 to go in the ballgame. Behrend scored two possessions later with 54 seconds left to take a 59-58 lead. The Mounties only scored one more basket in the form of a Kendrick layup with nine seconds remaining that made it a 63-60 game in favor of the Lions. Behrend went 6-for-6 at the free throw line in the final 33 seconds to seal the victory.

Mount Aloysius jumped out to a 7-0 lead to start the ballgame before Behrend chipped away to make it a 14-13 game in favor of Mount Aloysius after the first quarter. Behrend took a 27-21 lead with 4:16 to go before halftime, but the Mounties responded with an 11-2 run to close the half and led 32-29 at the break. 

The Mounties increased their lead to 36-29 in the opening minute of the second half. The Lions responded and the two sides were tied 46-46 heading into the final quarter, where neither team led by more than four points until the game's final seconds.

Antwanye' Parks led the Mounties with 16 points and 10 rebounds, and Kendrick scored 14 points off the bench. Jessa Wright contributed 13 points while Katie Bracken had eight rebounds and a team-high six assists. 

Mount Aloysius returns to action on Wednesday evening for a non-conference matchup at Bethany College at 6 p.m.
