Cresson, PA - The Mount Aloysius men's basketball team dropped its conference opener by a final score of 95-85 on Saturday afternoon to visiting D'Youville College in their conference opener.
Tre Brown had a fantastic game for the Mounties as the senior point guard poured in 26 points on 10-for-15 shooting and added 10 rebounds for a double-double effort. Brown also dished five assists.
Darryl Sanders recorded 22 points, and
David Swatsworth recorded eight points, eight rebounds and four steals off the bench for Mount Aloysius.
The Mounties fell behind 10-2 early on before gradually chipping away through the offensive play of Sanders to take a 27-26 lead with 9:42 remaining in the first half. Mount Aloysius extended its advantage to 36-31 with 6:47 to go before D'Youville went on a late run to take a 46-45 lead into halftime.Â
In the second half, the Spartans again jumped on the Mounties and took a 58-49 lead just over three minutes into the half. The lead hovered around double figures for the majority of the second half. Mount Aloysius cut the deficit to seven at 92-85 with 36 seconds remaining but were unable to get the game any closer in the final moments.
The Mounties will return to the court on Wednesday for a road game at Pitt-Greensburg at 8 p.m.Â
