Women's Basketball Wins Conference Opener

Cresson, PA - All 11 Mount Aloysius women's basketball players hit the scoreboard as the Mounties blew past visiting D'Youville by a final score of 87-68 in their AMCC opener on Saturday afternoon.

Antwanye' Parks led the Mounties with a double-double effort of 15 points and 12 rebounds. Jessa Wright led the team in scoring with 18 points, and Katie Bracken was also in double figures as she produced a solid all-around game with 11 points, six boards, four assists and two steals. Abby Kulick led the squad with five assists. Defensively, Mount Aloysius forced 25 Spartan turnovers and limited D'Youville to 23-for-66 (34.8 percent) shooting from the field.

The Mounties jumped all over the Spartans as they took a 16-5 lead with 5:40 remaining in the first quarter after a three-point shot from Kulick.  The lead grew to 25-11 by quarter's end after a shot from behind the arc courtesy of Hannah Drenning. In the second quarter, Mount Aloysius continued to push the tempo and increased the advantage to as much as 19 points before taking a 42-26 lead into halftime.

The second half continued to be dominated by the Mounties as the home side stretched the lead to 28 in the third quarter and led by as much as 29 in the final period while comfortably taking the victory. 

Mount Aloysius will return to the court Wednesday with a road trip to Pitt-Greensburg. Tipoff is at 6 p.m.
