Greensburg, PA - The Mount Aloysius men's basketball team recorded their first victory of the season and improved to 1-1 in conference play with a 81-75 victory over host Pitt-Greensburg on Wednesday evening.
Darryl Sanders led the Mounties offensively with 26 points while he added six rebounds and two steals.
Chad Eisenhuth contributed 14 points on the strength of a 9-for-11 showing from the free throw line.
Tre Brown finished in double figures with 12 points and three assists, and
Troy Williams controlled the paint with eight points and 13 rebounds.
The two sides exchanged the lead throughout the opening stages of the game before Pitt-Greensburg gradually built a lead and held a 32-23 advantage with 6:32 remaining in the opening half. The Mounties responded and went on a 10-4 run to cut the Bobcat lead to 36-33 with 3:53 to go, and Mount Aloysius took a 39-38 lead with just over two minutes left in the half on a
Brennan Garner layup. Mount Aloysius held a 41-40 lead at halftime.
With the score at 52-51 in favor of Pitt-Greensburg with 11:49 left in the game, Mount Aloysius went on a crucial 12-4 run capped by a Garner layup with 7:44 left on the clock. The Mounties built the advantage to double digits with two Sanders free throws with three minutes to go, and held on down the stretch for their first victory.
Mount Aloysius will return to the court on Saturday with a road contest at Penn State Behrend at 3 p.m.
