Box Score Cresson, PA - The Mount Aloysius men's basketball team played well for long stretches, but the Mounties were edged 90-87 on Wednesday evening by visiting Pitt-Greensburg in AMCC competition.
After falling into a 18-5 hole just over five minutes into the ballgame, the Mounties started to chip away with good ball movement on the offensive end. A three-point shot from
Chad Eisenhuth with 6:41 to go in the half cut the deficit to 29-22, and another triple from
Jourdan Lamberth made it a 38-35 game in favor of the visitors with 3:56 remaining. With the clock winding down and the Mounties down by three,
Dillon Bender nailed a jumper from the top of the key and Mount Aloysius trailed 47-46 heading into halftime.
Mount Aloysius continued to put its foot on the pedal to start the second half, as the Mounties took their first lead and used a 14-4 run to open the half to take their largest lead of the game at 60-51 with 17:10 on the clock. The visiting Bobcats dwindled the advantage then took the lead back at 67-66 with 10:18 to go. The two teams traded the lead down the stretch and Pitt-Greensburg ended up with a three-point advantage with 1:17 left after Bender hit two free throws. After
Shaire Tolson-Ford hit a layup to cut the deficit to three once again with 11 seconds left, Pitt-Greensburg missed the front end of a one-and-one. With the clock winding down, the Mounties
Arin Wade had a shot to tie the game but his attempt fell short after some contact by a Greensburg defender.
Bender scored 25 points and registered three steals for the Mounties.
Chad Eisenhuth scored 14 points, while Wade added 13 points and six rebounds.
Jourdan Lamberth,
Darryl Sanders and Tolson-Ford all played well off the bench as Lamberth scored 11 points and grabbed six boards while Sanders and Tolson-Ford each recorded eight points.
Tre Brown dished a team-high six assists, and
Drew Knowles blocked four shots on the defensive end.
Rocco Contristano led Greensburg with 25 points and 14 rebounds, and Marcus Thomas scored 18 points while securing 19 rebounds.
The Mounties fall to 6-18 overall and 3-14 in conference play. They will conclude their season on Saturday against Pitt-Bradford at 1 p.m. where they will honor Bender, Wade,
Jason Helsby and
Joe Dziabo as part of Senior Day.
