Emory, VA - The Mount Aloysius baseball team opened its season on the road over the weekend against Emory & Henry College. The Mounties faced the Wasps in a three-game series, winning one of three games to begin their 2016 campaign.

The Mounties fell by a final score of 4-1 in game one on Saturday. Mount Aloysius scored first in their opening at-bat when Connor Bowie drove in Ian Helsel with a single to right field, but the Wasps responded with a run of their own in the bottom of the inning. Emory & Henry scored one run apiece in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings as the Mountie bats went silent. On the mound, Benjamin Legath was handed the loss after he allowed two earned runs in four innings on the hill.

Mount Aloysius responded with a come-from-behind 5-4 victory in game two. The Mounties were down 4-3 heading into their final at-bat. Helsel and Bowie started the rally with singles, and Legath ripped a double down the right field line to score both runners and give Mount Aloysius the lead. Brady Wright then sealed the win with a scoreless seventh inning on the mound.

The two teams returned to the diamond on Sunday for a nine-inning contest. The Wasps seized control early with six runs in the first inning and four more in the third inning to take a 10-0 advantage. Mount Aloysius scored four runs in the top of the fourth, but Emory & Henry responded with seven more runs in the bottom of the frame. The Mounties added seven runs combined in the seventh and eighth innings to close the gap to 21-11, but wouldn't get any closer.

The Mounties received strong performances at the plate over the weekend from Chase Miller (5-for-9, two runs scored, two RBI's), Helsel (6-for-12, four runs scored), Legath (5-for-11, three doubles, three RBI's), and Bowie (4-for-9, four runs scored, two RBI's).
