Box Score Cresson, PA - The Mount Aloysius baseball team was tied 6-6 with Clarion University through six innings before an 11-run seventh inning from the Golden Eagles pushed the visitors past the Mounties by a final score of 17-10 on Tuesday afternoon in non-conference action.
Clarion scored the first run of the game in the top of the second inning before the Mounties responded with two runs.
Matthew McCourt hit a single to bring in
Dylan Oswalt, and
Daniel Singer scored on a groundout. The two sides then went back and forth as the Golden Eagles scored three runs in the top of the third, with the Mounties notching two more runs in the bottom of the inning when Oswalt hit a two-run home run. In the fifth inning, both teams scored two runs apiece. Down 6-5 in the bottom of the fifth, Oswalt again came up clutch with a single that brought in
Connor Bowie to tie the ballgame.
The Golden Eagles took control in the sixth inning as Clarion's first 12 hitters of the inning reached base on their way to 11 total runs in the frame. The Mounties would eventually cut the deficit to 17-10 in the eighth inning aided by a two-run home run from Bowie and a sacrifice fly from Oswalt that drove in
Benjamin Legath. However, Mount Aloysius wouldn't get any closer as they were retired in order in their final at-bat.
Offensively, the Mounties recorded 13 hits with
Chase Miller,
Bryn Brown, Bowie and Oswalt each registering two hits apiece. Oswalt finished with four RBIs. On the mound,
Ryan McElwee threw four scoreless innings in relief as he allowed just one hit.
Mount Aloysius falls to 6-5 overall and will return to the field tomorrow at Saint Vincent. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
