Box Score 2 Cresson, PA - The Mount Aloysius baseball team split a non-conference doubleheader with visiting Gettysburg on Saturday afternoon. The Mounties won game one 12-6, but the Bullets responded with a 5-2 win in game two.
The Bullets jumped out in front in game one with the first five runs of the ballgame in the third inning. The Mounties responded, however, with 10 runs in their next two-at bats to take control. In the bottom of the third inning,
Bryn Brown singled home
Nicholas Belka to get the Mountie scoring started.
Benjamin Legath then hit a sacrifice fly to score
Ian Helsel, and
Dylan Oswalt followed two batters later with double that scored two to make it 5-4 in favor of Gettysburg.
The Mountie scoring barrage continued in the fourth as
Matthew McCourt hit a solo home run to tie the game at 5-5. Later in the inning, Legath knocked a three-run shot out of the park to make it 8-5, and Oswalt closed the scoring in the inning with a two-run homer that made it a 10-5 ballgame.
Gettysburg cut the deficit to 10-6 in the fifth inning, but Mount Aloysius responded once again in the bottom of the inning. On his attempt to steal third, Helsel was able to come all the way around after the catcher's throw sailed away.
Chase Miller completed the scoring with an RBI single that brought in
Connor Bowie.
Rodney Patterson sealed the win with 2 and 2/3 scoreless innings out of the bullpen to close the game.
In game two, Gettysburg again scored first with two runs in their first at-bat. Mount Aloysius tied the game in the bottom of the second. With the bases loaded,
Kyle Droz recorded an RBI on a groundout, and
Jesse Bortner followed with an RBI single.Â
The game then turned into a pitcher's duel between the Mount's
Daniel Resavy and Gettysburg's Brad DeMartino. Neither team scored over the three innings before the Bullets registered three runs in the top of the sixth to take a 5-2 lead. The Mounties would only get one runner on base in their final two at-bats as Gettysburg notched the win.
Resavy pitched a complete game in game two and allowed eight hits and only one earned run while striking out seven.
The Mounties are now 8-6 overall and will return to the diamond on Thursday for a single game at Shenandoah at 3 p.m.Â
