Box Score Winchester, VA - Host Shenandoah University scored 11 runs in the fourth inning to break open the ballgame as the Hornets defeated the Mount Aloysius baseball team by a final score of 20-4 on Thursday afternoon in non-conference action.
Connor Bowie gave the Mounties the lead early on against the Hornets, recently ranked #9 in the nation by D3baseball.com in their latest poll. Bowie hit a two-run home run in the top of the first to give Mount Aloysius a 2-0 advantage. Shenandoah scored two runs in the bottom of the second to even the game, and added a single run an inning later to take a 3-2 lead.
The Hornets would explode for 11 runs in the fourth inning to seize control with a 14-2 advantage. The Mounties threatened in the top of the fifth inning and
Bryn Brown doubled home
Nicholas Belka. However, Shenandoah scored four more runs in the bottom of the inning to respond.
Brown went 2-for-3 at the plate, and
Jesse Bortner and
Dylan Oswalt each recorded hits.
The Mounties fall to 8-7 overall and will return to the field on Saturday with a doubleheader at Thiel College set to begin at 1 p.m.Â
