Baseball Drops Two at Thiel

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2
Greenville, PA - The Mount Aloysius baseball team dropped two close contests to host Thiel College on Saturday afternoon in non-conference action, as the Mounties were defeated 7-4 in extra innings in game one and 7-3 in game two.

Mount Aloysius scored first in game one when Chase Miller was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. Thiel responded with one run apiece in the first, second and fifth innings to take a 3-1 lead, but the Mounties tied up the game in the bottom of the fifth. Benjamin Legath scored off of a wild pitch, and Dylan Oswalt came around on a fielder's choice to even things up at 3-3.

The game went into extra innings with the same scoreline. In the top of the ninth, Legath came up clutch with an RBI single with two outs that scored Ian Helsel to give the Mounties a 4-3 advantage. Thiel kept the game alive with a run in the bottom of the inning. Neither team threatened until the 11th inning when the Mounties Nicholas Belka advanced to third with two outs, but Connor Bowie flied out. The Tomcats ended the game with a walkoff three-run home run in the bottom of the inning.

Christopher Nolan got the start on the mound in game one and allowed two earned runs through four innings of work for the Mounties.

In game two, neither team would get on the board until the fourth inning when the Mounties scored two runs. Helsel scored on a wild pitch, and Legath singled to center field to score Bryn Brown. The Mounties couldn't hold on to the lead as the Tomcats plated four runs in the bottom of the inning.

Mount Aloysius got one run back in the top of the fifth, but Thiel scored three more runs in their next at-bat to seize a 7-3 lead on their way to the win.

Daniel Resavy was handed the loss in game two as he allowed seven runs over four innings on the hill. Tristan Gelvin and Nicholas DiDiano each threw a scoreless inning in relief.

Legath led the Mounties offensively on the day as he went 3-for-7 at the plate in the two-game set.

The Mounties drop to 8-9 overall and return to the field on Wednesday for their AMCC opener at La Roche. The doubleheader will begin at 1 p.m.
