Box Score 3 Cresson, PA - The Mount Aloysius baseball team won all three of their weekend home games as the Mounties swept Hilbert in AMCC competiton on Saturday by scores of 13-3 and 7-6 before defeating non-conference opponent Fredonia State by a final margin of 17-5 on Sunday.
In game one against Hilbert, the Mounties scored one run apiece in their first three at-bats before breaking the game open with a six-run fourth inning.
Benjamin Legath (double),
Matthew McCourt (single) and
Chase Miller (single) provided the early-inning RBI hits while
Ian Helsel highlighted the fourth inning with a double that drove in two. Leading 9-3 after four innings, Mount Aloysius continued to score with two runs apiece in the fifth and sixth.
Bryn Brown recorded an RBI single in the fifth, and McCourt came through in the sixth with a two-run home run that brought in
Daniel Singer.
On the mound,
Christopher Nolan and
Brady Wright combined for a strong performance. Wright was credited with the victory after tossing four scoreless innings while allowing just one hit.
McCourt led the charge offensively with a 3-for-4 showing at the plate with two runs scored and three RBIs. Singer, Miller, Helsel, Brown,
Dylan Oswalt and
Connor Bowie each had two hits.
The Mounties jumped on the visiting Hawks early again in game two before holding off a Hilbert late-game rally. Mount Aloysius scored the games first four runs and led 7-3 heading into Hilbert's final at-bat. The Hawks rallied for three runs to cut the deficit to 7-6 before
Rodney Patterson was called on to notch the final out after a solid showing on the hill from
Jacob Bryja.
Helsel, Brown, Bowie, Oswalt and
Jesse Bortner each registered two hits in game two, and Legath had a first-inning RBI triple.
The Mountie bats stayed hot heading into Sunday as Mount Aloysius scored 17 runs on 23 hits in the nine-inning victory. 11 different Mounties recorded hits led by Bowie, who went 4-for-5 at the plate with two runs scored. Bortner and Campano each struck for home runs in the first inning as Mount Aloysius scored nine runs in their first at-bat as the first nine Mounties reached base.
Tristan Gelvin and Miller added three hits each.
Tyghe Bowers earned the win throwing three innings before
Nicholas DiDiano (three innings),
Luke Stultz (two scoreless innings) and
William McCabe (scoreless ninth inning) closed out the ballgame.
With the victories, the Mounties improve to 15-13 overall and 4-4 in conference play. They will return to the field on Tuesday against Penn State Altoona at 1 p.m. at Peoples Natural Gas Stadium, home of the Altoona Curve.
