Mountie Bats Explode in Wins over Medaille

Cresson, PA - The Mount Aloysius baseball team lit up the scoreboard on Saturday afternoon in a doubleheader sweep of visiting Medaille College, as the Mounties blew past the Mavericks 34-4 in game one before completing a dramatic ninth-inning comeback to win 14-13 in game two in AMCC action.

The Mounties jumped all over the Mavericks in game one with 16 runs in the first two innings of play. In the second inning, Connor Bowie and Benjamin Legath hit back-to-back home runs. The scoring barrage continued as Mount Aloysius scored runs in all six at-bats, with five runs in the third inning followed by two runs in the fourth, five runs in the fifth and six runs in their final at-bat of the ballgame. 

15 different Mounties registered an least one RBI in the win, while 14 different players scored a run and 12 players recorded hits. Kyle Droz recorded a 4-for-5 performance at the plate with four runs scored and two RBIs. Jesse Bortner went 3-for-4 with five runs scored and four RBIs. Jordan Campano went 3-for-4 with a home run, five RBIs and three runs scored. Legath went 3-for-3 with five RBIs and two runs scored, and Bryn Brown registered a 3-for-3 performance with three runs scored.

On the mound, Daniel Resavy had a strong performance as he threw six innings and allowed just one hit and one run while striking out three. 

Despite the lopsided result in game one, the Mavericks controlled action early on in game two as the visitors took a 8-2 advantage through the first five innings of play in the nine-inning game. Medaille expanded the lead to 11-2 in the top half of the sixth inning before the Mounties scored two runs in the bottom of the inning. Droz notched an RBI single and Matthew McCourt ripped an RBI triple as the Mounties cut the gap to 11-4. Mount Aloysius scored four more runs in their next at-bat highlighted by a Bowie two-run home run to decrease the Maverick advantage to 12-8.

Heading into their finat at-bat, the Mounties were down 13-8. Droz doubled to start the inning before scoring on an RBI single from Dalton Garlock. Later in the inning, Bowie and Legath drew back-to-back walks with the bases loaded that cut the lead to 13-11. Chase Miller then came up huge with a single that brought in two to tie the game. 

With the score tied and runners on second and third with two outs, Droz came back up for the second time in the inning and ended the game via a walkoff single that scored Legath to complete the rally. 

Miller and Droz each knocked four hits in game two to lead the Mounties offensively, and Dylan Oswalt and Brown each added three hits.

The Mounties improve to 2-2 in AMCC play and 10-11 overall with the victories. They will return to the field on Tuesday with a non-conference doubleheader at home against Hood College. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
