Baseball Sweeps Hood as Kime Wins 200th Game

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2
Cresson, PA - The Mount Aloysius baseball team swept Hood by final scores of 4-3 and 18-10 in a non-conference doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon as the Mounties pushed Head Coach Kevin Kime over the 200-win mark for his career.

In game one, the Mounties fell into a 3-0 hole through four innings before rallying in the bottom of the fifth. Kyle Droz doubled home Jesse Bortner to get Mount Aloysius on the board, and four batters later Connor Bowie was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to cut the deficit to 3-2. Dylan Oswalt then helped the Mounties tie the game with a single that scored Matthew McCourt.

Mountie starter Tristan Gelvin kept Hood off the board in the sixth and recorded two outs in the seventh before Rodney Patterson was called on to register the third out. In the bottom of the inning, Bryn Brown and Bowie hit back-to-back singles with one out. Benjamin Legath then came up clutch with an RBI single that scored pinch runner Dalton Garlock to win the games for the Mounties in walkoff fashion.

Gelvin threw 6 and 2/3 strong innings as he allowed five hits and two earned runs. Offensively, Oswalt led the way with a 3-for-3 showing at the plate.

The Mounties used the momentum from their game one comeback victory to seize control early in game two with seven runs in their opening at-bat. Bowie drove in two with a triple to the gap, and Oswalt, Chase Miller and McCourt each followed with RBI singles. McCourt then came around on an Ian Helsel single that made it 7-0 in favor of the home team after one inning.

The visiting Blazers cut the gap to 7-5, but the Mounties responded with four runs in the bottom of the third. The two sides then exchanged four runs apiece in the fourth inning as the offensive slugfest continued. The highlight for the Mounties was a Helsel two-run, inside-the-park home run. Mount Aloysius added three runs total in the fifth and sixth innings before Brady Wright closed out the game on the mound in the seventh.

Mount Aloysius notched 20 hits in game two as Helsel and Droz led the charge with four hits apiece. Miller went 3-for-4, while Bowie and Garlock had two hits each.

The Mounties improved to 18-14 overall with the victories and return to the field this weekend with a conference doubleheader at Pitt-Bradford on Saturday. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
