Cresson, PA - The Mount Aloysius baseball team lost a pair of non-conference games on Wednesday afternoon to visiting Frostburg State. After dropping game one 8-4, the Mounties nearly came back from a 6-0 deficit before being edged 7-6 in game two.
The visiting Bobcats scored the first three runs of game one before the Mounties responded in the bottom of the fourth.
Benjamin Legath got the Mounties on the board with an RBI single that brought home
Ian Helsel, and
Dylan Oswalt followed with a double to the gap that scored Legath to cut the Frostburg advantage to 3-2. However, the Bobcats responded with five runs in their next two at-bats to seize control with a 8-2 lead.
In the bottom of the sixth, Mount Aloysius threatened and loaded the bases with one out.
Kyle Droz then drove in a run on a fieder's choice, but the Mounties wouldn't score again in the inning. In their last at-bat,
Ian Helsel doubled and came around to score to make it 8-4 for the final scoreline.Â
Oswalt went 3-for-3 at the plate in game one. On the mound.
Tristan Gelvin was handed the loss after allowing three earned runs over four innings of work.
Frostburg again jumped out to an advantage in game two as the Bobcats led 6-0 heading into the bottom of the fourth.
Matthew McCourt produced an RBI double to get the Mounties on the board and came around on a
Jordan Campano single to make it 6-2. In the fifth inning Legath made it a 6-4 game with a single that drove in
Chase Miller and Helsel.
Heading into their final at-bat, the Mounties trailed 7-5. Mount Aloysius put runners on second and third with one out, and
Connor Bowie came home on a McCourt sacrifice fly. With two outs and a runner on second, Campano flied out to end the ballgame.
Helsel, Legath, McCourt and Campano each registered two hits in game two for Mount Aloysius.
The Mounties fall to 20-18 overall and will host D'Youville in their regular season finale on Saturday at 1 p.m.Â
