Mounties Sweep Spartans In Regular Season Finale

Cresson, PA - The Mount Aloysius baseball team swept two games from visiting D'Youville on Saturday afternoon in AMCC action. The Mounties won game one 4-1 and then put on an offensive slugfest in a 18-1 victory in game two.

Senior Daniel Resavy was dominant in game one on the hill for the Mounties. He pitched a complete game and allowed only one run and five hits. Mount Aloysius trailed 1-0 before a four-run showing in the bottom of the fifth. Kyle Droz lasered a triple that brought in Chase Miller, and Matthew McCourt followed with a sacrifice fly that sent Droz home to make it 2-1. Later in the inning, Connor Bowie completed the scoring with a single that scored two.

Seven different Mounties had one hit apiece in the game one win .

In game two, the Mountie bats exploded for three big innings in the third, sixth and seventh. Mount Aloysius scored five runs in the third and added five more in the sixth that made it a 10-1 ballgame. The Mounties then recorded eight runs on seven hits in the seventh as the home side sent 12 batters to the plate.

The major highlight was a grand slam home run for Bryn Brown in the third inning. Other offensive highlights included a Benjamin Legath two-run home run in the sixth inning and doubles from seven different players: Ian Helsel, Bowie, Miller, Dylan Oswalt, Droz, McCourt and TJ Wardwell.

On the hill, Christopher Nolan earned the win with a strong five-inning showing in which he allowed six hits and one earned run. Andrew Shreiner (two innings), Greg Wierzbicki (one inning) and Brady Ring (one inning) combined to allow one hit and no runs to seal the victory. 

Mount Aloysius concludes its regular season with an overall record of 22-18, including a 9-7 conference mark which gives the Mounties the #4 seed in the upcoming conference tournament. 

Prior to Saturday's game, the Mounties honored their 13 seniors and graduating players. The senior class has reached four consecutive AMCC playoffs and will look to make their fourth consecutive AMCC Final Four as Mount Aloysius will host Hilbert next Saturday at 1 p.m. in the first round of the AMCC playoffs. The two teams will play two games on Saturday and, if necessary, a deciding third game on Sunday. The winner will move on to the AMCC Final Four.
