Pittsburgh, PA - The Mount Aloysius baseball team saw its season come to an end on Friday as the Mounties fell to Penn State Behrend and La Roche and were eliminated one game short of the AMCC Championship.
The Mounties first faced Behrend in a matchup with the winner moving on to the championship game. Mount Aloysius jumped out to a 2-0 advantage in the second inning as
Dylan Oswalt lasered a triple to bring in
Benjamin Legath, and
Kyle Droz followed two batters later with a sacrifice fly to score Legath. Behind the arm of
Daniel Resavy, the Mounties led by a two-run advantage until the Lions scored one run apiece in the fourth and fifth innings to tie the game at 2-2.
Behrend took control in the bottom of the sixth inning with four runs to take a 6-2 lead, and the Lions expanded their advantage to 9-2 in the bottom of the eighth. The Mounties were unable to score again in the ballgame.
Mount Aloysius was hurt by seven errors in the loss to Behrend.
The Mounties then had to gear up after a short break for an elimination game against La Roche in a rematch of the Mounties win on Thursday. However, the Redhawks offense scored six runs in the first inning and continued to stay hot at the plate as they recorded 19 hits in the 17-2 victory.
Mount Aloysius notched eight hits in defeat.
Bryn Brown went 3-for-5 at the plate with a run scored, and
Connor Bowie registered a 2-for-4 showing with a triple and RBI.
Mount Aloysius concludes its season with an overall record of 25-20. The Mounties will lose a strong senior class that made four consecutive AMCC Final Four appearances and won a total of 93 games.
