Greenville, PA - Led by two goals from
Kevin Ouellette, two assists from
Kyle Marshall, and a strong team defensive effort, the Mount Aloysius men's soccer team earned a 3-0 victory against Thiel College on Sunday afternoon on the road in non-conference action.
The Mounties came out firing and dominating possession and were rewarded after a great build-up play in the 20th minute. After a ball was served down into the corner, Marshall sent in a low hard cross that Ouellette redirected into the top corner to give Mount Aloysius the early lead. The Mounties continued to push and increased their advantage to 2-0 less than four minutes later when
Michael Clendenin headed home a goal off of another feed from Marshall. The Mounties stayed strong defensively through the remainder of the half and carried their two-goal lead into the break.
Ouellette expanded the Mountie lead to 3-0 in the 53rd minute. He got behind the defense on the break and took a touch past the keeper before slotting in his sixth goal of the season. The Mountie defense and goalkeeper
Kyle Lachance then turned away five Tomcat shots in the final 45 minutes to get the victory.
The Mounties outshot the Tomcats 20-10 and ended with an 8-4 advantage in corner kicks. Lachance stopped five shots to improve to 3-1-1 on the season in net.
The Mounties return to the field Tuesday when they will host Juniata at 4 p.m.
