Chambersburg, PA - The Mount Aloysius men's soccer team won its third game in four days with a 4-1 victory over host Wilson College on Wednesday afternoon in non-conference action.
Jim Smith led the Mount Aloysius attack with two goals. After the Mounties suffered through a slow start, Smith got the visitors going with a perfectly placed free kick in the 29th minute from the edge of the box. The Mounties use the momentum from the goal and added another five minutes later when
Alex Duthie struck for a goal following a loose ball in the box off of a rebound. Wilson would get a goal back before halftime in the 38th minute to cut the deficit to 2-1 heading into the break.
Mount Aloysius came out firing to start the second half of play and just under three minutes into the session were rewarded with a penalty kick. Smith buried the shot to increase the advantage to 3-1. The two sides went back-and-forth and the Phoenix were awarded their own penalty kick in the 60th minute. However, Mountie keeper
Kyle Lachance stopped the penatly kick and also made a save on the follow-up shot to keep the lead at 3-1. The Mounties countered and on their next opportunity
Kevin Ouellette scored his team-leading seventh goal of the season off of a pass from
Kyle Marshall to make it a 4-1 game in favor of the Mounties.
The Mountie defense held strong down the stretch to secure the victory.
Mount Aloysius registered a 15-7 advantage in shots and 6-2 advantage in corner kick opportunities. Lachance made four saves while improving to 5-1-1 on the season.Â
The Mounties will face Medaille on Sunday in their AMCC opener on the road. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.Â
