Men's Soccer Splits a Pair of Games in NYC

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2
Westbury, NY - The Mount Aloysius men's soccer team split a pair of games in New York City over the weekend. After streaking past York College (NY) by a final score of 5-0 on Friday evening, the Mounties fell victim to a SUNY Old Westbury comeback attempt in a 3-2 defeat on Saturday afternoon.

The Mounties used a well-balanced attack in Friday's victory. Alex Duthie put the Mounties on the board 18:40 into the game after he tapped in a Molia Sesay cross, and Graham Hunter made it a 2-0 game with just under 10 minutes left in the half after slotting in a goal off of a feed from Alan Ugarte.

Mount Aloysius added three second-half tallies. Thomas Sloan scored off of a Jim Smith cross at the 65:20 mark, and Jalen Terry headed in a goal after Joshua Devlin sent in a ball from the wing with less than 10 minutes to go in the game to increase the advantage to 4-0. Pete Smerecky capped the scoring at 84:25 after he picked up a loose ball in the box and blasted it home.

Kyle Lachance earned his first career shutout as he made one save in the game. The Mounties outshot York by a final margin of 21-3 and held a 6-0 advantage in corner kick opportunites.

On Saturday, Mount Aloysius fell into an early 1-0 deficit as host SUNY Old Westbury scored 4:40 into the match. The Mounties rallied and scored two goals less than four minutes apart. Sloan gathered in a feed from Smith and tucked it home with just over fifteen minutes left in the first half, and John Ouellette followed up at the 33:05 mark after Kyle Marshall redirected a corner kick to Ouellette at the back post for a header into the back of the net. The Mounties appeared to go up 3-1 minutes later after Dwayne Andre Thorpe headed in another corner kick, but Thorpe was called for a foul.

SUNY Old Westbury evened things up 15 minutes into the second half, and got the go-ahead goal with 23 minutes remaining after a loose ball in the box was redirected into the net. Thorpe and Kyle Marshall each had goal scoring opportunities in game's final minutes but couldn't convert.

Allister Noronha made two saves in net for the Mounties against the Panthers.

Mount Aloysius will return to the field Wednesday for their home opener at 4 p.m. against St. Vincent.
