Cresson, PA - After a disappointing setback over the weekend, the Mount Aloysius men's soccer team responded with a complete team effort in a 6-0 victory over St. Vincent on Wednesday afternoon in the Mounties home opener.
The Mounties came out firing from the opening whistle and were rewarded with a
Molia Sesay goal off of a
Kyle Marshall cross 7:25 into the game. Just over seven minutes later,
Kevin Ouellette made it a 2-0 game when he fired home a goal off of a feed from
Jim Smith. Less than two minutes later, Ouellette expanded the lead to three after he got on the end of a
Molia Sesay header in the box.
Mount Aloysius continued to press the final third with strong play from its bench.
Quoiquoi Gayflor picked up a loose ball with 13 minutes remaining in the opening half, and after beating two defenders off the dribble he slotted home his first goal of the season to make it 4-0 in favor of the Mounties.
The Mounties received two second half goals to create the final scoreline.
Ricky Abbs got on the board with a shot from distance that was deflected in at the 58:15 mark, and
Thomas Sloan scored on a penalty kick attempt after he was fouled in the box with just under 24 minutes to go.
Mount Aloysius held a 22-6 advantage in the shooting column and a 5-1 corner kick advantage. Sloan led the way with six shots, including four on goal.
In net, goalkeeper
Kyle Lachance played the first 70 minutes of the game and made three saves before yielding to
James Eyre.
The Mounties return to the field on Sunday with an away matchup at Marymount at 2 p.m.
