Cresson, PA - The Mount Aloysius men's basketball team dropped two home AMCC matchups this week as the Mounties fell by a final score of 91-70 on Wednesday evening against Penn State Altoona then were edged by Hilbert in a close contest by a score of 80-77.
Darryl Sanders poured in 25 points in the loss to Altoona, including a 4-for-6 showing from behind the three-point arc.
Tre Brown added 19 points and five assists in a strong showing at the point guard position, and
Ryan Streets finished in double figures with 10 points.
Troy Williams led Mount Aloysius in the rebounding department with 11. The Mounties had a tough time offensively as they shot just 25-for-80 (31.3 percent) from the field in the defeat.
The Mounties bounced back with a strong effort against Hilbert. Down 10 points at halftime and as much as 14 in the early stages of the second half, Mount Aloysius tied the game at 58-58 with 8:22 to play on a Williams layup. The Mounties took a 71-69 lead on two Sanders free throws with 3:57 on the clock. After
Jourdan Lamberth hit a jumper to hand the home side a 75-74 edge with 1:40 to go, Hilbert responded with four straight free throws to regain a lead at 78-75. Sanders missed a three-point attempt on the next possession before Williams hit a layup to make it a one-point game in favor of the Hawks. Hilbert made two more free throws in the final seconds to seal the win.
Sanders continued his strong play offensively with 23 points against the Hawks to go with 10 rebounds. Williams also had a double-double showing with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Lamberth scored 16 points on 7-for-11 shooting while
Chad Eisenhuth notched 13 points.
The Mounties fall to 2-6 in conference play with the defeats. They will look to get back on the winning track on Wednesday with a road matchup at Franciscan University at 8 p.m.
