Women's Basketball Edged in Two Conference Contests

Cresson, PA - The Mount Aloysius women's basketball team was defeated in two conference contests this week as the Mounties fell 78-77 to Penn State Altoona on Wednesday evening then dropped a Saturday contest to visiting Hilbert by a final score of 68-59. 

Against Altoona, the Mounties built a 29-17 lead through one quarter before the Lions chipped away and eventually made it a 63-60 game in favor of Mount Aloysius heading into the final quarter of play. The game was tied at 68-68 with six minutes remaining after Breana Kendrick hit a three-point shot, and after a 70-70 tie the Mounties went on a 7-0 run to lead 77-70 with just under two minutes on the clock. However, the Lions stormed back and scored the final eight points of the game to seize the victory, including a three-point shot with two seconds to play that won the game for the visitors.

Jessa Wright scored 22 points against Altoona to lead the Mounties offensively, while Kendrick scored 18 points and Alexia Servello finished in double figures with 13 points. Antwanye' Parks led Mount Aloysius on the glass with 10 rebounds.

Against Hilbert, the Mounties and Hawks battled back-and-forth with Hilbert taking a 34-31 halftime lead before the Mounties held a 51-50 advantage through three quarters of play. The Hawks outscored the Mounties 18-8 in the final period to earn the win.

Kendrick was the lone Mountie in double figures with 18 points against the Hawks. Parks scored eight points while grabbing 13 rebounds, and Lea Sammarco dished five assists off the bench.

Mount Aloysius drops to 2-6 in conference play and will return to the court on Wednesday with a road matchup at Franciscan at 6 p.m.
