Steubenville, OH - The Mount Aloysius women's basketball team got back on the winning track with a 81-60 victory over host Franciscan University on Wednesday evening in AMCC action.
After the two sides were tied at 5-5, the Mounties went on a 10-0 run in the first quarter capped by two
Kacie Baker free throws with 1:51 left in the period. Mount Aloysius pushed the lead to 24-9 just over a minute into the second quarter after
Lea Sammarco drained a three-point shot. The Mounties led by double digits for much of the remainder of the second quarter before taking a 35-23 advantage into the half.Â
In the second half, the visiting Mounties didn't let up and increased their lead to 51-30 with 3:33 to go in the third quarter. The lead stretched to 27 after
Jessa Wright hit a three-point shot with 8:26 remaining in the ballgame, and Mount Aloysius held a comfortable advantage down the stretch on their way to the victory.
Antwanye' Parks and Wright each finished the game with 17 points and 10 rebounds apiece to lead the Mounties.
Breana Kendrick scored 16 points, and
Alexia Servello notched six points while dishing seven assists.Â
The Mounties forced 22 turnovers as Wright registered four steals and Kendrick had three steals.
Mount Aloysius improves to 3-6 in conference play and 5-11 overall. They will travel to D'Youville on Saturday for a 1 p.m. tipoff.Â
