Cresson, PA - The Mount Aloysius women's basketball team won its fourth consecutive contest with a 70-64 comeback victory over Penn State Behrend on Saturday afternoon in AMCC action.
With 3:57 remaining in the third quarter, Behrend took a 50-37 advantage. The Mounties closed the quarter on a 9-3 run capped by a
Lea Sammarco layup to cut the deficit to seven at 53-46, and carried that momentum into the final quarter as the home side eventually tied the game at 55-55 on a Sammarco three-point shot with 7:28 left in the ballgame. The Lions responded with the next four points before the Mounties
Alexia Servello hit a three-point shot followed by a
Kara Cordell jumper with just under four minutes on the clock that handed Mount Aloysius a 60-59 lead.
Servello scored on a driving layup on the Mounties next possession, and Cordell hit another jumper with 2:26 to go that pushed the Mountie lead to 64-59. Mount Aloysius then went 6-for-8 from the free throw line in the closing moments to seal the victory.
Jessa Wright paced the Mounties offensively with 16 points while adding seven rebounds and three steals.
Katie Bracken scored 12 points, and Servello and Sammarco each added 10 points in the win.
Antwanye' Parks notched eight points and eight boards.
Mount Aloysius improves to 6-6 in conference play and will return to the court Wednesday evening at first-place La Roche at 6 p.m.
