Men's Soccer Tops Barons in Shutout Fashion

Box Score
Cresson, PA - The Mount Aloysius men's soccer team put forth an impressive performance in a 3-0 victory over the visiting Franciscan University Barons on Tuesday afternoon.

Franciscan, who came into the contest second-best in the league with 39 goals on the season, was limited to seven shots on goal that were all stopped by Mountie keeper James Eyre. The Mountie backline led by Pete Smerecky, Iddi Kaumba, Cameron Kemp and Sergio Serna, as well as Andre Thorpe and Christopher Godet, were solid throughout in keeping the Barons off the board.

The Mountie offense got started near the end of the first half. With just over 13 minutes remaining, Joshua Devlin continued his impressive scoring surge with a header off of a cross from James Maddison. Seven minutes later, Andre Thorpe slammed home a header into the back of the net off of a corner kick from Devlin to give the Mounties a 2-0 advantage heading into halftime.

The Mounties concluded their scoring late in the contest on a Will Funez goal off of a through ball from Graham Hunter, which sealed the victory for the Mounties.

Devlin led the attack with four shots while Funez registered three shots for the game.

The Mounties return to the field on Saturday with a road contest at 1 p.m. at Hilbert College.
