Cresson, PA - The Mount Aloysius men's soccer team continued its strong performance in the attack as the Mounties defeated Pitt-Greensburg by a final score of 6-0 on Wednesday afternoon in conference action.
The Mounties scored twice in the game's opening eight minutes as
Will Funez scored off of a feed from
James Maddison just under two minutes into the contest before
Tevin Beadle struck for a goal in the box after a pass from
Jonathan Fernandez with 37:51 to play in the opening half. Mount Aloysius made it a 3-0 game just over 10 minutes later when
Graham Hunter took a pass down the wing and swung in a cross to Funez who finished past the Greensburg keeper.
Kyle Marshall then capped the first-half scoring three minutes later when he struck for a goal on a pass from
Erik Johansson. The Mounties took a 4-0 advantage into halftime while allowing zero shots from Greensburg on the defensive end.
Mount Aloysius started hot again in the second half with two goals from Fernandez in the opening stages of the period. With the game in 6-0, the Mounties comfortably took home the victory. Goalkeeper
James Eyre made three saves in the second half to preserve the shutout.
Fernandez and Funez each scored two goals while adding one assist apiece. Johansson registered two assists off the bench.
The Mounties have now allowed just one goal in their past five contests.
Mount Aloysius moves to 14-2-1 overall and 6-1 in conference play. They will return to action on Saturday with a road match at Pitt-Bradford at 1 p.m.
