Mounties Race Past Altoona

Box Score
Altoona, PA - Joshua Devlin netted a hat trick and added an assist as the Mount Aloysius men's soccer team raced past host Penn State Altoona by a final score of 5-2 on Wednesday evening in conference action.

Devlin took a crossing pass from Will Funez just over 11 minutes into the contest and re-directed a shot into the back of the net, then increased the advantage to 2-0 in favor of the Mounties less than six minutes later when he blasted a shot into the back of the net from the top of the box off of a pass from Jonathan Fernandez. Mount Aloysius took the 2-0 lead into halftime as they outshot the Lions by a 10-1 margin in the opening 45 minutes.

The Lions cut the deficit in half with 27 minutes remaining in the game on a long-distance shot, but Devlin completed his hat trick less than two minutes later. After Tevin Beadle put in a strong tackle to win the ball back for the Mounties, he found Devlin in the box and led him into the finish.

With just under 18 minutes remaining, Devlin took a pass down the line and sent in a cross that was sent into the net by Funez. After Altoona scored to make it a 4-2 game, the Mounties Graham Hunter completed the game's scoring with a rocket into the upper left corner of the net from outside the box.

Mount Aloysius held a 21-8 advantage in shots as Devlin led the way with nine shots. Goalkeeper James Eyre made two saves in the victory.

The Mounties improve to 9-2-1 overall and will host D'Youville on Saturday at 1 p.m.
