Mounties Drop Tight Contest to Lions

Cresson, PA - The Mount Aloysius men's basketball trailed by three points with just over 10 minutes to play against league-leading Penn State Behrend, but weren't able to overcome the deficit and fell by a final score of 61-52 on Saturday afternoon in conference action.

Mount Aloysius trailed 39-29 with 14:45 remaining in the ballgame before ripping off eight straight points capped by a Tommy Pisula layup with 13:20 on the clock to cut the deficit to 39-37. The game was 44-41 with 10:56 to go after two made free throws from Julian Stover, but Behrend scored the next eight points to take control. Down the stretch, the Mounties cut the gap to five points with 1:09 left in the game on a Stover layup. However, the Lions hit their final four free throws to secure the conference victory.

Stover scored 14 points off the bench to lead the Mounties offensively, while Azim Hutson added 11 points off the bench. Trent McErlane recorded seven points and dished four assists from the point guard position and Josiah Jones led the Mounties with six rebounds.

The Mounties fall to 1-2 in conference play with the loss. They will return to the court on Wednesday with a road match against non-conference opponent Grove City at 6 p.m.
