Pittsburgh, PA - The Mount Aloysius women's basketball team saw its four-game win streak snapped in a 69-57 defeat against first-place La Roche on Wednesday evening in AMCC action.
The Mounties jumped out to a lead of 8-4 early on before the host Redhawks responded to take a 14-10 lead on their way to a 21-16 advantage after one quarter of play. The Redhawks expanded the gap to 14 points at 31-17 with 6:55 remaining in the second quarter, and ended up holding a 46-34 lead at the halftime break. Mount Aloysius controlled the game in the third quarter as the Mounties outscored the Redhawks 14-7 in the period to cut the deficit to 53-48 after
Lea Sammarco scored the final basket of the period with 1:26 remaining.Â
Down five points heading into the final quarter, the Mounties stayed steady with the Redhawks and the La Roche lead was still at five points at 62-57 halfway through the final quarter. Mount Aloysius had a cold spell on the offensive end, however, and the Mounties didn't score over the final 4:56 of the ballgame as La Roche took the victory.
Jessa Wright scored 12 points and added five rebounds for the visitors, and
Katie Bracken also finished in double figures with 10 points while adding three blocks on the defensive end.
Kara Cordell hustled for seven points, three rebounds and three steals off the bench.
The Mounties drop to 6-7 in conference play and will return to the court Saturday for a road contest at Pitt-Bradford. Tipoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
