Mounties Edged by Franciscan in Home Finale

Cresson, PA - The Mount Aloysius men's basketball team was edged by Franciscan University by a final score of 66-58 on Wednesday evening in conference action. 

The Mounties had three players finish in doubles figures in the scoring column. Chad Eisenhuth scored 15 points, Troy Williams added 12 points and Darryl Sanders ended with 11 points. Nick Burk had a strong game on the glass while recording six points, 14 rebounds and three blocks. 

The Mounties trailed 14-9 early before rallying to take a 19-15 advantage when Trent McErlane nailed a three-point shot with 8:40 remaining in the opening half. Burk expanded the advantage to 24-17 with a layup with just under five minutes left on the clock, and Mount Aloysius went on to take a 29-25 lead into halftime. 

The two teams went back-and-forth in the second half with the Mounties holding a 40-36 edge after Tre Brown hit two free throws with 11:09 remaining in the ballgame. Franciscan responded with an 18-5 run to take a 54-45 lead with 6:04 to go. The Mounties rallied to tie the game at 56-56 when Williams drove in for a layup with 2:46 left to play, and Burk scored on the next trip down to give the home side the lead with 1:24 on the clock. However, Franciscan responded with a three-point shot on their next possession and the Mounties were unable to score in the final minute as the Barons escaped with the win.

Mount Aloysius will conclude their season on Saturday with a road matchup at Hilbert at 3 p.m.
