Cold Shooting Dooms Mounties in AMCC Playoffs

Cresson, PA - The Mount Aloysius women's basketball team had a cold shooting night as the Mounties fell to visiting Penn State Behrend by a final score of 91-64 in the first round of the AMCC playoffs on Wednesday evening.

Mount Aloysius shot just 19-for-76 (25 percent) for the ballgame and were only able to connect on 7-for-37 three-point attempts. The Mounties forced 29 Behrend turnovers but the visitors shot 52.8 percent from the field to come away with the victory.

The two teams were tied 7-7 before the Lions went on a 11-0 run to take an 18-7 advantage with 2:37 to play in the first quarter. The Mounties cut the deficit to 20-12 by the end of the first quarter, but Behrend pushed their lead back to 31-17 at the 5:32 mark of the second quarter and took a 43-27 lead into halftime. Despite continuing to force turnovers on the defensive end, the Mounties didn't get any closer than 11 points in the second half.

Jessa Wright led Mount Aloysius on the offensive end with 16 points on the strength of an 8-for-8 showing at the free throw line while adding three steals. Antwanye' Parks contributed 10 points and six rebounds in her final collegiate game. Kara Cordell recorded seven points, six rebounds and three steals, and Abby Kulick hustled for five steals.

The Mounties conclude their season with an overall record of 10-16, and the program reached the conference playoffs for the fifth time in the last six seasons.
