Bradford, PA - The Mount Aloysius women's basketball team built a large lead and held on for a 63-59 victory over Pitt-Bradford on Saturday afternoon in AMCC action.
Mount Aloysius controlled the game throughout the opening half and led 37-23 at halftime, and towards the later stages of the third quarter took a 54-36 advantage with 53 seconds remaining in the period after
Jessa Wright hit a free throw. Bradford responded with a 12-3 run to cut the deficit to 57-48 with 7:14 to go in the fourth quarter. The Mountie lead was 61-50 with four minutes remaining before the Panthers ripped off a 9-1 run to make it a 62-59 game with 1:32 left on the clock. The home team missed on three attempts from behind the arc in the final minute, and
Kara Cordell hit a free throw with seven seconds left to seal the victory.
Wright scored 16 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to lead the Mounties, and Cordell finished with a double-double effort of 10 points and 10 boards off the bench.
Alexia Servello scored 12 points, and
Katie Bracken had four points, seven rebounds, four assists and two steals.
The Mounties improve to 7-7 in conference play and hold a one-game lead on Hilbert and Pitt-Greensburg for fifth place in the AMCC standings. They will return to the court on Wednesday with a road contest at Penn State Altoona at 6 p.m.
