Greenville, PA - The Mount Aloysius baseball team was defeated by host Thiel College by final scores of 7-0 and 8-2 in a non-conference doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon.
In game one, the Tomcats got on the board with single runs in the second and third inning off of Mountie starter
Tyghe Bowers. The game remained 2-0 until the bottom of the fifth when the home side scored five runs to break open the game with a 7-0 advantage. The Mounties were held off the board with four hits for the ballgame.
TJ Wardwell,
Matthew McCourt and
Kyle Droz each recorded doubles for Mount Aloysius in the game one loss. Bowers allowed nine hits and seven earned runs in 4 and 2/3 innings of work, while
William McCabe threw 1 and 1/3 scoreless innings in relief.
Thiel again took control early in game two with a four-run showing in the bottom of the second inning. Mount Aloysius got on the board in the third as
Patrick Jobes came around on a
Daniel Singer RBI groundout, but the Tomcats responded with two runs in the third and two more in the fifth to seize an 8-1 lead. The Mounties scored their second run when Singer came around on an RBI groundout courtesy of Droz.
Tristan Gelvin was handed the loss in game two, and
Scott Schultz threw a scoreless inning in relief. Wardwell went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead the Mounties offensively.
The Mounties fall to 3-11 overall and will return to the diamond on Thursday with a home matchup against St. Vincent. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
