Mounties Swept by Lions in Baseball Action

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2
Cresson, PA - The Mount Aloysius baseball team was swept in a conference doubleheader by visiting Penn State Behrend on Sunday afternoon as the Lions took the two-game set by scores of 10-0 and 16-5.

In game one, the Lions scored three runs in the game's opening at-bat off Mountie starter Michael McCourt. McCourt held Behrend scoreless through the second and third innings before the away team added three more in the top of the fourth inning. Behrend added four runs in their final three at-bats to take the victory. Offensively for the Mounties, Vincent Jacob reached base twice in three plates appearances with a single and walk.

In Sunday's second game, Behrend jumped out to a 5-0 advantage before the Mounties got on the board in the third inning when Jacob drove in Andrew Pasko with a suicide squeeze. In the bottom of the fourth, Daniel Singer slammed a two-run home run to cut the deficit to 5-3. However, the Lions scored 11 consecutive runs to take a 16-3 lead heading into the bottom of the eighth. Mount Aloysius scored its final two runs when Kyle Droz and Chase Miller came across on wild pitches.

Droz was handed the game two loss after allowing five runs (only one earned run) in five innings on the hill. The Mounties were hurt by six errors in the game two defeat.

Mount Aloysius will return to conference action on Tuesday with a doubleheader at Penn State Altoona beginning at 1 p.m.
