Mounties and Panthers Battle in Conference Split

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2
Bradford, PA - The Mount Aloysius baseball team and host Pitt-Bradford battled in two conference contests on Saturday afternoon as the Mounties took game one 4-3 before dropping game two by a final score of 14-12.

The two sides exchanged runs in the opening inning of game one as the Mounties scored first when Kyle Droz hit a sacrifice fly to score TJ Wardwell. After the Panthers tied the game 1-1, the Mounties scored one run apiece in the second and third innings courtesy of RBI singles from Wardwell and Jordan Campano to take a 3-1 advantage. Pitt-Bradford cut the deficit to 3-2 in the fourth inning before the Mount's Matthew McCourt slugged a home run in the top of the fifth to increase the lead to 4-3.

Despite a solo home run from the Panthers in the seventh, the Mounties held on for the victory after Rodney Patterson recorded the save after forcing a groundball out with two outs and the bases loaded in the Panthers final at-bat.

Campano recorded two of the Mounties nine hits, while Tyghe Bowers earned the victory with six innings on the hill.

In game two, the offense picked up for both teams. Mount Aloysius scored first with an RBI single from Kyle Droz in the first inning and held the one-run lead until Pitt-Bradford responded with 13 runs over their three at-bats in the third, fourth and fifth innings to take a significant advantage. Despite the deficit, the Mounties showed no quit. In the sixth inning with the bases loaded, Daniel Singer roped a double into the gap that cleared the bases. Two batters later, Patrick Jobes notched an RBI single to cut the deficit to 13-5.

The Mounties added one more run in the seventh inning courtesy of Anthony Rocco, who doubled to left-center field to score Droz. The offense continued for the visitors as the Mounties exploded for five more runs in the eighth. After loading the bases, McCourt walked to force in a run and then Rocco came up with a clutch grand slam to right field that made it a 13-11 ballgame.

The home side scored one in the bottom of the inning before the Mounties last at-bat. Mount Aloysius again loaded the bases with zero outs, but were only able to manage a Dalton Garlock RBI sacrifice fly before the Panthers ended the threat.

The Mounties move to 6-8 in conference play and return to the field on Monday for a non-conference matchup at Messiah set to begin at 3:30.
