Arone Game Two Victory Highlights Mountie Split at Frostburg

Frostburg, MD - Freshman Alex Arone battled for a game two victory to highlight the Mountie baseball team's split at Frostburg State in a non-conference doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon on the road. The Mounties dropped game one by a final score of 10-1 before responding with a 8-6 victory in game two.

Game one was a 2-1 ballgame heading into the bottom of the third inning after DJ Olenchick singled home LesPaul Buchko to put the Mounties on the board. The host Bobcats responded with five runs over their next two-at bats to establish control with a 7-1 advantage. Frostburg added three runs in the sixth inning on their way to the victory.

Buchko went 2-for-2 in game one to lead the Mounties, while Dom Panick was handed the loss after allowing seven earned runs in four innings on the mound.

The Mounties came out firing in game two and scored four first-inning runs. Mount Aloysius loaded the bases followed by Anthony Rocco drawing a walk to bring in the game's first run. Chase Miller then came through with a double to the gap that scored Kyle Droz and Matthew McCourt, then Rocco was brought home by a Jordan Campano RBI groundout to increase the advantage to 4-0. After Frostburg cut the deficit to 4-1, the Mounties scored three more runs in the second inning highlighted a Rocco single that scored Dalton Garlock and TJ Wardwell to increase the lead to 7-1.

Mount Aloysius completed its scoring in the sixth courtesy of a Garlock double that scored Wardwell to make it a 8-3 ballgame. The Bobcats scored three runs in their final two at-bats, but the combination of Luke Stultz and Rodney Patterson sealed the win in relief for the Mounties.

Arone pitched five innings in game two while earning the victory. Garlock had a 3-for-4 showing at the plate with two runs scored, and Rocco went 2-for-3 with three RBIs.

The Mounties now sit at 13-24 overall and will conclude their regular season on Saturday with a doubleheader at conference opponent D'Youville. The Mounties will need to win both games for a chance to earn a conference playoff berth.
