Mountie Baseball Eliminated in AMCC Final Four

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2
Pittsburgh, PA - The Mount Aloysius baseball team saw its season come to an end with two losses in the AMCC Final Four on Friday and Saturday. The Mounties fell to Penn State Behrend by a final of 5-3 on Friday before falling by a 9-7 score to Pitt-Bradford in an elimination game on Saturday.

Against Behrend, the Mounties scored first in their opening at-bat when Kyle Droz drove in Dalton Garlock with a single. Mount Aloysius took a 3-1 advantage in the third inning courtesy of solo home runs from TJ Wardwell and Matthew McCourt. Behrend cut the lead to 3-2 in the fourth inning, but the Mounties maintained the one-run lead until a Lion solo homer in the seventh tied up the ballgame. Behrend added two runs in the bottom of the eighth to take a 5-3 lead, and the Mounties were only able to manage one hit in their final at-bat.

Droz pitched seven innings for the Mounties against Behrend and allowed six hits and four earned runs.

In the matchup against Bradford, the Panthers jumped out to a 8-1 lead through three innings of play before the Mounties rallied in the fourth. Mount Aloysius loaded the bases before Jordan Campano drew a walk to force in a run, and Vincent Jacob followed with a triple to clear the bases and make it an 8-5 ballgame. Garlock then drove in Jacob with a single to cut the deficit to 8-6.

The score remained the same as neither team threatened until the top of the eighth when the Mounties put runners on first and third with no outs. However, the Panthers got three consecutive outs without allowing a run to end the inning. After Pitt-Bradford added one run, the visiting Mounties scored once more in the ninth on an Anthony Rocco RBI single but it wasn't enough to complete the comeback.

Michael McCourt threw well in relief against Bradford as he allowed only two earned runs in six innings on the mound. Garlock went 3-for-5 at the plate to lead the Mounties.

The Mounties conclude their season after advancing to the AMCC Final Four for the sixth consecutive season.
